About the event
This is a project run by Dr Colin Reilly and Dr Hannah Gibson (Language and Linguistics) and the work is in collaboration with Professor Rajendra Chetty of the University of the Western Cape (South Africa) and it focuses on developing an increased understanding of the practical steps, which can be taken to decolonise education. The project explores the themes of decolonising the curriculum and decolonising language policy.
The aim of the project is to increase understanding of the steps, which can be taken to decolonise education in a way that will have a beneficial impact on the quality of teaching through the creation of a more inclusive and representative education system. The outputs produced through this project will provide guidance to educators in South Africa, and the Global South and North more broadly, of ways in which they can begin to decolonise their curriculum and language policies.
In this first webinar we will introduce the topic by looking into what decolonising the curriculum is and what it means to educators.
